Kurzprofil

CEON – Centre for Communication, Earth Observation and Navigation Services

As a result of several years of preparatory activities, CEON was established in July 2009 as a non-profit organisation by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. With its versatile economic activities of space system development, maritime logistics and innovative research, the two-city-state Bremen and Bremerhaven offers perfect framework conditions for CEON to promote and integrate the upcoming services of GMES and the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). CEON aims to coordinate and promote Bremen´s programmatic and operational activities with partners from industry and science in these fields.

As the regional point of contact for GMES and GNSS activities in Bremen, CEON will integrate and promote user driven applications of data derived from satellite and in-situ sources in the fields of Communication, Earth Observation and Navigation leading to new and enhanced operational services.

The operational task of CEON is to facilitate communication between service developers/providers and users in order to define and promote Service Development. These new and enhanced services will be carried out by industrial and scientific partners for potential users under the coordination of CEON.

The centre will provide the appropriate IT infrastructure in order to simulate and support the operations, required by the project needs (Service Demonstration Facility). The programmatic task of CEON is to promote cooperation between Bremen and national/European strategic players as well as networking between the Bremen region and any other international regions with similar interests.
