Welcome address

Senator Martin Günthner
(Minister of Economic Affairs and Ports, Bremen)
“The protection of the Environment and ensuring Security are basic needs of European citizens. To support these needs, the European Union´s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) programme will provide valuable data for developing applications in areas such as the Marine Environment, Climate Change and Safety. The unique bundle of Bremen´s competencies in the Space and Maritime industries together with a scientific focus on Atmospheric, Climate and Marine research enables Bremen to make a significant contribution as one of the European GMES Pilot regions.
Bremen´s non-profit-organisation CEON – Centre for Communication, Earth Observation and Navigation Services, plays an important role in this context by mobilising the interaction between the different stakeholders and by initiating and implementing demonstration and research projects for integrated environmental and security services.”

Andreas Heyer
(CEO, WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH )
“Bremen is one of the most important locations in the field of Aerospace, Maritime and Renewable Energy in Europe. We have established innovation clusters in each of these areas in order to capitalise on Bremen’s strengths even more successfully. Our role is it to build a bridge between the enterprises, policy stakeholders and administration and to accompany the activities of these clusters. In this way, the strengths of the region are optimally combined and complement each other. CEON, as a regional contact office, will contribute to the dialogue within and between these clusters and promote the uptake of space-based and integrated environmental and security services.”
