SecureSystem – Satellite-based Container Monitoring System
SecureSystem has been designed and developped to operate in the mass market. It has started its commercial operation at the beginning of 2011. Since then the services were sold to shippers, forwarders and carriers.
The german customs is integrated into the SecureSystem processes, so that already today green lane traffic can be realized for the customers.
As a result of increasing globalisation, safety and security in intermodal transport is rapidly gaining importance. Under the leadership of EADS Astrium, Europe's leading space company, the internationally renowned logistics companies, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Eurogate have formed a consortium and developed a security system that ensures the comprehensive monitoring of containers through the entire supply chain.
Today, container transport makes up around 90 per cent of worldwide trade- and the growth of global container handling is set to nearly triple by the year 2020. Naturally the question arises: How can the steadily growing world economy also provide transparency in the supply chain, addressing increasing security and capacity issues at the same time? The solution is Smart Containers with the new SecureSystem.
Telematic System
SecureSystem is a unique transport telematic system which enables a Smart Container to not only provide information about its exact location, but also about its integrity, reporting on the status of goods and unauthorised intrusions. This occurs along the entire supply chain – in real time and worldwide – indicating the container’s security status and optimising the flow of information between all responsible parties.
Greenlane
Based on the concept of authorized sealing and authorized opening of a container, SecureSystem is the only system which is compliant to the U.S. and European Concept of a "trusted shipper" and "trusted container".
As the container becomes a monitored "trusted container" , SecureSystem can save time and cost intensive inspections e.g. by X-raying.
SecureSystem represents a cost-effective solution to the USA’s announcement that, as from 2015, 100 % of all sea containers bound for the United States will be required to undergo scanning in the last port visited before entering US territory. SecureSystem offers an alternative to these rather onerous scanning procedures by using sensors to monitor containers 24/7, anywhere in the world, in real time. Sensor data is transmitted via satellite link, without the need for any additional ground systems or complex server networks, to a Trust & Control Centre where the data is analysed and any anomalies found are reported to the customer or the security authorities. In this way, any unauthorised opening or entry into the the container can be detected in real time. If the system discovers that a container has been opened without authorisation, the identified container can be inspected by a scanning unit.

ACSD
The easy-to-use Advanced Container Security Device (ACSD) is mounted either permanently or temporarily onto the container. Upon activation, the ACSD initialises monitoring of the entire container. All data recorded by a sensor system are sent via satellite- or GSM communication to the Trust & Control Centre. Sufficient energy supply is guaranteed through a long life battery and high performance power management; container access is controlled though personal authorisation and authentication via short-range communication (Bluetooth®) or keypad.
Trust & Control Centre
The Trust & Control Centre is the core element of SecureSystem receiving real-time data of all activated ACSDs in operation. The received data are analysed, processed and made available 24/7 to all authorised users. Furthermore all authorisation and authentication openings and closings of containers are managed through the administration and transmission of electronic cipher codes to portable user devices.
Web -based User Interface
The web-based User Interface is used to instantiate and configure travels to track the containers; 24/7 real-time position and travel data are visualised.
